i think there is a tradeoff between information density and long-term memory potential in text. wikipedia has high information density articles on topics. but because so, i have to pause and i also procrastinate in continuing the reading.

whereas good books have a coherent story that takes lower toll on cognitive resources but does so by reducing information density and explaining a concept slowly using anecdotes and related concepts.

but maybe then the books that most people enjoy and are ‘page-turners’ don’t do well in long-term learning.
