half life of knowledge refers to the amount of time it takes for knowledge in a field to be proven wrong or updated by newer knowledge.

basically that a lot of what we believe to be true today will be shown to be false in the future. exactly how geocentrisim was once the accepted knowledge.

the same applies individually. a lot of what we individually believe today will not what our future selves will.

taking my own example, i remember how 5 years earlier, i’d think that gym was for “body builders” and not for average people. and that protein powder was fake and not for average person. i know now how wrong my past self was. there is no reason to believe then that my current self is 100% correct. 5 years on, my future self will look at things I currently believe and cringe about how I could’ve believed in something so false.

this is called epistemic humility.
