most advice i’ve received in my life has been wrong. its usually people extrapolating my decision over their life and telling me what would’ve been best for them in their life.

this blog gives an interesting analogy for why - Advice as Bad Directions in High Dimensional Life-Space

personal notes - what’s interesting is how we need to introduce randomness in order to experience different things in life to know what makes us more happy (if that’s the objective function). but what this can mean is that there might be some people who reach the global maximum of their life, but since the region is foggy, they don’t know how happy other things will make them, so they might walk in the fog only to realise later that what they had earlier was probably the global maximum.

hopefully that decision remains reversible.
